Day 3 of Fasting

“Humility, Part 2"

James 4:4-6 - Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God?  Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously”?  But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

In the Book of James, these Scriptures are powerful and very clear: friendship with the world will destroy God’s purposes for your life and the result of humility is GRACE. Yes - I said, “GRACE”!  HE GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE. In fasting and praying, as I have already mentioned, we crucify our flesh.

I love this Scripture because it declares that the Lord, who is jealous for us, is attracted to our humility. Fasting makes us humble. To me the question then is - What does a humble person look like? I know you don’t have to be rich, smart, educated, famous, or perfect. Just WILLING. A willing heart to try to fast is where it starts! Here are some practical characteristics of a humble person that I look for in me and others in dealing with people.
  • They listen
  • They take time to say “Thank you”
  • They assume responsibility
  • They celebrate other’s successes
  • They are grateful for what they have
  • They put others first
  • They ask for help
  • They accept feedback

Let me encourage you to humble yourself in the sight the Lord with prayer and fasting for 2023. You will not be disappointed!
Grace to you,
Pastor Brian Rabon
